Translation is not a matter of words only: it is a matter of making intelligible a whole culture.
As an avid traveller, knowing even a little bit about the language and culture of the place I’m visiting goes a long way – literally. Simple phrases and nifty summaries of a new place are most often my door to that world. Therefore, when I’m working on Travel and Tourism translations, It’s important that I get the message across as clear as possible – sometimes with colourful details – so that a new culture opens up before the reader in an understandable, attractive and welcoming way.
About my work
I’ve translated travel websites, travel stories, tourism advertisements and promotional brochures for tourism offices and travel agencies – from English to Simplified/Traditional Chinese and vice versa. For travel websites, accurate translating of travel terminology is as important as the facts about a country; so the user can navigate a site easily and gather information about the place where he or she is going.
As for tourism translations, I like to be creative with the description of sightseeing spots – by capturing the essence of the place presented in the source text and transporting it to the target text, reconstructing the text as attractively as it was in the original. It isn’t about just getting it right, but also getting a reader excited about the prospective experience – helping him or her break language barriers to partake in the new discovery of another culture/place.
What I can do for you
I can help you understand cultural nuances – transcreating the experience in the original text into the target as vividly as the text requires – without losing the spirit and gist of the original copy.
Clients I’ve worked with include:
KAYAK, Transnet System, Verztec, Mount Faber Leisure Group
