Don’t tell me the moon is shining;
show me the glint of light on broken glass.
About my work
I was on the Arts and Culture beat for the most part of my career as a staff reporter in Singapore. I’ve covered a wide variety of stories ranging from writing up the ins and outs of a writers’ festival, profiling a film actress in town promoting her latest film, to reviewing concerts/TV shows or sussing out how the local film industry is breaking new ground.
As a freelance journalist in Berlin, I’ve covered stories including features on co-working culture and profiling up and coming musicians and their new projects – painting textured portraits of their personalities and music.
As a presenter/producer in TV and radio, I’ve crafted pitches for production houses as well as scripted documentaries – which also require a flair for in-depth storytelling – rearranging fragments of a character’s journey into a compelling story that not only informs, but tugs at the viewer’s heartstrings.
About arts and culture features
To me, feature stories dig into a hard layer of facts to unearth the colourful reasons beneath; and in sieving through the various shades and nuances, reveal the heart of the piece.
Feature writing in the fields of arts and culture allows me to exercise my creativity, to play with the descriptive details of a piece of art or examine a slice of culture under a microscope – be it food, fashion or stage – and bring the story to life.
What I can do for you
I could shed light on an issue or investigate a trend, presenting new insights for your reader to chew on – whether it is the sprouting of art galleries, an up close and personal interview with an artist, or simply adding some wit to embellish a well-documented fashion spread.
